Tuning a SCUD in Long Island - Legend MotorSports

The Italians are known for making some beautiful machines but a Ferrari that sports a set of stripes down the middle, carbon fiber and alcantara everywhere, and a F1 transmission that could give you whip lash on every shift screaming for more at 8500 rpm is none other the the F430 Scuderia. Todd and I had the pleasure of tuning one of these bad boys which we both agreed that there would be no disappointment foreseen at the end of this tunnel. While both ECU's were out and being reprogrammed by Master Zuccone, I was installing two BMC air filters in the carbon air boxes to improve some air flow. Once the tuning was complete, and it was time for the test drive, the only thing I can say is HOLY TORQUE! This thing was an animal! Very enjoyable to drive, gave me more than perfect throttle response and a power band that just wouldn't quit. The tune clearly improved all aspects of performance in this already worked beast and it very well may be my favorite Ferrari to drive.  - Thank You Anthony Mennella of Legend MotorSport for the opportunity to tune this awesome Ferrari as well as your Feedback and Blog Entry. Tuning the Sharkwerks 2010 3.8L GT3

I was visiting my good friend Alex Ross and crew from Sharkwerks, so we decided it was a good time to dyno test and tune their 2010 GT3 project car.

We drove the car to Stasis Engineering (an Audi Tuner, located at Infineon Raceway) and reserved the dyno for the whole day. I'll tell you now, there's nothing quite like sitting in a room for 8 hours while a GT3 motor is taken to 8500 RPMs.

We made around 60 pulls throughout the day with various configurations, and made adjustments to the GT3 ECU software throughout the day. We also used this time to dyno the SharkWerks 997 GT3 Track Exhaust system and tuned software specifically for the low restriction exhaust.

The tuning involves more aggressive fuel calibrations, timing advance optimization for specific grades of fuel, and a more responsive accelerator e-gas settings.

A summary:

With software only, the 2010 GT3 went from 392 RWHP to 404 RWHP at the peak. The car gained about this much horsepower for most of its RPM range. The car gained over 10 ft-lb of torque at its peak around 6600 RPM and more torque throughout the RPM range. With the exhaust and software, the gains were higher, bringing it up to 414 RWHP at the peak (22 RWHP net gain), more torque at the peak, and a large gain in torque between 3700 and 5400 RPMs.

Tuning the PAPA Smurf Murcielago

I must say that this is one of the best colors that I have ever seen for a Murcielago. This Blu Ely Murcielago was driven from Seattle, WA to EVOMSit for some upgrades to the ECU and some other goodies. The owner has and continues to enjoy this car and the odometer would confirm this. With almost 19,000 miles, this Murcielago gets its fair share of exercise and now it will run with some more power.

We did some extensive dyno testing and tuning on this Murcielago over the past few weeks and I will share the results later on in this post. Since this is an early production Murcielago, the ECU's are a previous generation EFI/Campi/Lamborghini controller which differ from the later 04 and newer model ECU's. We have tuned all of the late generation Gallardo's & Murcielago's but none as early as this car.

After some extensive ECU disassembly, we had to create and test a checksum calculator to work with this type of EPROM data organization. After getting the checksum figured out, it was time to create and test some upgraded mapping and extract some more power from the engine. We tested various ignition changes, fuel setting and load tables to optimize the engines efficiency and generate more power. We are finishing up the final tuning this weekend and we will test the increased rev limiter early next week. Based on the initial testing, we anticipate the final calibration to produce a power gain of more than 20 wheel HP/TQ with a rev limit 300-400 RPMS higher than the stock 7500 RPM limiter.

2006 Bentley Continental GT - 12 holes, 2 hair dryers and EVOMSit = lot's-o-power.

Power, it's a wonderful thing. Take twelve cylinders and two turbochargers, sprinkle in a little Intelligent Tuning and what do you get? How about enough power to corrupt the Pope. Bentley hit a home run when they introduced the Continental GT and we decided to up the ante bit. 550 horse power right out of the box aint nuthin' to sneeze at but after we worked our magic on the mighty "B" it was making a over 600 hp with torque cresting just north of 640 lb/ft. Ah power, it's a wonderful thing! Hit the link below to check out the Dyno sheet.

2007 Maserati Quattroporte GTS - F1. Land yacht or screamin' machine?

Truth be told, after a little luvin' from EVOMSit, it's now both. With a Ferrari sourced 4.2 liter V8 it's criminal not to extract every last bit of "scream" out of this Italian beauty. That's where we come in. With an additional 20 hp and 20 lb/ft of torque, a much smoother power curve and drastically improved throttle response, you get a 2 1/2 ton four door luxury sedan that will smoke a great majority of the "performance" cars out there! Check out the link for more details.

Another Dragon Slayer is born

This morning we woke up the neighbors with the sound of 800+ horse power, at 4 wheels, spinning away on the dyno. You just have to love the magical sound of 6e cylinders churning out over 900 HP crank hp! Here is short video

What do you get when you cross a twin turbo Benz with EVOMSit?

Over 700 lb/ft of torque, that's what! The low end grunt was so massive on this bad boy that we had to have a couple of our guys sit in the trunk just to get it to hook up on the dyno rollers. It's amazing what intelligent tuning can do.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!!

Evolution MotorSports is featured on Speedchannels SuperCars Exposed. Tanner Foust and his crew spend a day with Todd Zuccone, owner of Evolution MotorSports, to get some seat time in a couple of insanley tuned turbo Porsche's. Good Times!

Want to hear what 1200 horsepower sounds like?

Check out this video of the EVOMS GTXXXX. Many years of research and development have gone into creating this beast. As wicked as it is, it's still completely street legal and very drivable, it even retains the factory air conditioning!

Tuning the EVOMS/Sharkwerks 3.9L 997 GT3RS "ZKERMIT"

Using the SharkWerks/Evolution MotorSports Spec 3.9 liter pistons with new liners, displacement is increased by over 8% (from 3.6 to 3.9 liters). The larger bore pistons also feature higher compression for increased torque and horsepower through the entire RPM range. There's a lot of time, effort, and R&D that went it to this so some of the specifics are going to stay under wraps.

The new components reduce rotating mass by 2 grams per piston and 21 grams per wrist pin, ensuring the motor freely revs and responds especially well at higher RPMs.

The Evolution MotorSports custom Exhaust and Intake camshafts – built specifically for the 3.9L, add more top-end power and overall performance. We set these up to be able to hit 8800rpms...
The car spent several days on Evolution MotorSports' AWD Mustang Dyno to tune and tweak every parameter of the fuel maps, ignition timing, camshaft timing and other parameters for safety, maximum performance, and reliability.
Todd Zuccone – Evolution MotorSports Founder and director of EVOMSit software development, used an ECU emulator / EPROM simulator module to live tune the ECU on the dyno. This type of technology allows live tuning of the ECU for instant mapping changes as well as live monitoring of the various EPROM functions. This is the kind of thing usually seen in Europe, but fortunately, we have some great footage which we will be uploading soon.

This is the emulator connected to the GT3 ECU which gets run through a special program on the laptop, allowing instant changes to be made to the ECU during the tuning process while still installed in the car.
